LOCATION AND CLIMATE

The village of Czarny Potok belongs to the city Krynica (Kree-neet-sah) spa, located in Beskid Sadecki mountains in the Southern part of Poland, about 60 km from Nowy Sacz (130 km East from Kraków). The mountains surrounding the town become less rocky and more heavily wooded comparing to the insofar Tatra mountains. The town is famous for its excellent healing waters, which since 1793, it began to develop as a health resort and it has remained so until today, giving back health and strength to many thousands of people.
Krynica is also a place of many cultural, educational, sport and economic venues. In September, Krynica becomes capital of the opera and operetta, during the Jan Kiepura International Festival. Every year many local and international performances are organized for guests of the resort, including: the International Tourist Fair of Mountain Lands, a Classic Guitars Contest, Piano Master Course, various political and scientific seminars, international meetings of businesspeople and politicians, sidewalk paintings, chess competitions, and a variety of performances by artistic groups.

In the period of August/September, the weather is usually warm and pleasant, with the temperature reaching up to 25° C and rather cool nights. Nevertheless, sudden changes including rains and drops of day temperature under 10° C are not exceptional. The sport shoes for mountain hiking are recommended

To facilitate the transportation of the SYNCRYS participants from Cracow to Krynica,

there will be the Conference bus connection operating on Agust, 31.
The departure from Krakow to Krynica - Czarny Potok: 16:00.

Busses will await in front of the Institute of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, where the Conference Office will be in this day located:

Getting to the Conference Office at Krakow

The SYNCRYS office is situated approximately 1 km from the old town market, 2.5 km from the railway station and 12 km from the Balice airport. You can reach it:

by taxi (c.a. 20 zl from the Krakow Central Station, ca 30 zl from Balice Airport), Our advice is to take only company cabs that have the taxi company telephone number displayed. The best idea is to order taxi by phone (call e.g. 919). Many companies offer a 10-20% discount when taxi is ordered by phone. Do not accept offers of a ride from unknown persons. Taxi rank at the railway central station (in Polish: "Krakow Glowny") is just above the platforms. Follow the stairs to reach the upper level. Ask the driver to take you to "Instytut Chemii UJ, Ingardena 3".
by local public transport. We recommend you to use a bus or a tram. Before getting in you should buy a ticket in a stand indicated as "Kiosk". You can easily find them around the town -- they sell newspapers. The price is 2.00 zl for one regular bus/tram ride, or 2.40 zl for the one-hour ticket that makes it possible to change bus and tram lines. The prices for the fast buses (lines marked by letters: A, B, C...) are 2.40 zl for the one-ride ticket and 2.60 zl for the one-hour ticket. If you carry large luggage with you an additional ticket should be used. You can also buy a ticket from the bus/tram driver for the price of 2.40 zl for normal ticket. A driver may ask you to provide the exact amount that you have to pay. One should stamp the ticket immediately after entering the bus/tram in a special device there. When you leave a passage under platforms of the central railway station - turn left and walk along the station building. There is a taxi rank in front of the main entrance. Cross it, turn left and then right, downstairs. You will find yourself at the tram stop. Here, you can buy a ticket in a news-stand or, even better, in a special stand selling only transportation tickets.

Fig. 1. Tram No. 15 will take you from the Central Station to the Oleandry stop -- get off at 5^th stop. When you get off, turn right and go about 300 m along the Oleandry street to intersect the Ingardena street. Bus No. 179 will take you from the Central Station to the AGH stop -- get off at 5^th stop. When you get off turn right on the next cross where you will find the Ingardena street. (see Fig. 2)

Buses No. 192 No. 152 or D will take you from the airport Cracow -Balice to the stop close to Cracovia hotel, situated about 500 m. from Conference Office (see Fig. 2). However, if you arrive to Balice airport we recommend you to take a taxi.

HOW TO REACH Krynica without conference bus

By car:

From North (Krakow): Route No. 4 (Krakow-Bochnia-Brzesko, 57 km), then Route No. 75 (Brzesko - Krynica, 77 km), or: Route No. 77 (Krakow-Myslenice-Lubien, 50 km), then Route 968 (Lubien-Mszana, 8 km), then Route 28 (Mszana-Limanowa- Nowy Sacz, 57 km), and finally Route No. 75 (Nowy Sacz - Krynica, 27 km)

From South (Slovakia): Route 77, Route 87; Border pass in Piwniczna-Mnisek n. Popradem (10 km from Krynica

There are also bus connections from Krakow and Nowy Sacz, with bus-stops near the stations.
