About
the Conference
"Jaszowiec"
International
School
and
Conference
on the Physics of
Semiconductors
is an annual meeting gathering international
semiconductor
physics community in Poland. It has been organized since 1970, and it
originated from the Symposium on the Physics of II-VI
Semiconducting
Compounds (1970). The idea of these annual meetings comes from
Professor Witold Giriat - a reputable scientist at the Institute of
Physics of Polish
Academy of Sciences -
who organized the initial meetings together with his
colleagues Professor Wiesław
Wardzyński of University of Warsaw and Professor Józef Żmija
of
Military University of Technology, Warsaw. Since
1970, every year (with two exceptions, one was in 1982) Polish
and
foreign scientists interested in recent
achievements in semiconductor physics have convened in
a mountain
village called Jaszowiec, in order to get acquainted with and discuss
current research trends, exchange ideas, and to transfer the knowledge
to younger scientists.
The
Conference
is
organized
jointly by the Institute of Physics of
Polish Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Physics of University of
Warsaw (Institute of Experimental Physics, Institute of Teoretical
Physics) and the Institute of High Pressure Physics of Polish
Academy of
Sciences. It is supported
financially by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Since 2009 the Conference and School
were moved
to a new place in a
beautiful mountain resort, Krynica-Zdrój, in the south of
Poland. In the
picture is shown the Słotwinka mineral water source. The photographer is A.
Klimkowski of the Krynica-Zdrój Civic Centre.
For
years the name “Jaszowiec” (the village where the
conference has
originated) has become the symbolic trademark of the event
and,
therefore, it is still kept in the official name of the
School
and Conference.
In 2012 the Conference will ake place in Krynica-Zdrój from June 11th to June 15th (Monday morning to
Friday, suggested arrival on
Sunday evening, June 10th, and
departure on Friday morning, July 15th
), and it will be preceded by the School (i.e., the Special Tutorial
Session) taking place from June 9th to 10th (Saturday and Sunday,
suggested arrival on Friday 8th).
