About the Conference

"Jaszowiec"  International School and Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors  is an annual meeting gathering international semiconductor physics community in Poland. It has been organized since 1970, and it originated from the Symposium on the Physics of II-VI Semiconducting Compounds (1970). The idea of these annual meetings comes from Professor Witold Giriat - a reputable scientist at the Institute of Physics of  Polish Academy of Sciences - who organized the initial meetings  together with his colleagues Professor Wiesław Wardzyński of University of Warsaw and Professor Józef Żmija of  Military University of Technology, Warsaw. Since 1970, every year (with two exceptions, one was in 1982) Polish and foreign scientists interested in recent achievements in semiconductor physics have convened in a mountain village called Jaszowiec, in order to get acquainted with and discuss current research trends, exchange ideas, and to transfer the knowledge to younger scientists.

The Conference has been organized jointly by the Institute of Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Physics of University of Warsaw (Institute of Experimental Physics, Institute of Teoretical Physics) and the Institute of High Pressure Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences.

In 2009 the Conference and School were moved to a new place in a beautiful mountain resort, Krynica-Zdrój, in the south of Poland.  For years the name “Jaszowiec” (the village where the conference has originated) has become the symbolic trademark of the event and, therefore, it is still kept in the official name of  the School and Conference.

In 2011 the Conference will take place in Krynica-Zdrój from June 27th to July 1st (Monday morning to Friday, suggested arrival on Sunday evening, June 26th, and leave on Friday morning, July 1st ), and it will be preceded by the School (i.e., the Special Tutorial Session) taking place from June 25th to 26th (Saturday and Sunday, suggested arrival on Friday 24th in the evening).
