"Jaszowiec" International School and Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors is an annual meeting gathering international semiconductor physics community in Poland. It has been organized since 1970, and has originated from the Symposium on the Physics of II-VI Semiconducting Compounds (1970). The idea of these annual meetings comes from Professor Witold Giriat - a reputable scientist at the Institute of Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences - who, together with his colleagues Professor Wiesław Wardzyński of University of Warsaw and Professor Józef Żmija of Military University of Technology, Warsaw, has also organized initial meetings. Since 1970, every year (with two exceptions, one was in 1982) Polish and foreign scientists interested in recent achievements in semiconductor physics have convened in a nice mountain village called Jaszowiec, just to get acquainted with and discuss current research trends, exchange ideas, and to transfer the knowledge to younger scientists.
The Conference has been organized jointly by the Institute of Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Physics of University of Warsaw (Institute of Experimental Physics, Institute of Teoretical Physics) and the Institute of High Pressure Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences.
In 2009 the Conference and School were moved
to a new place in a
beautiful mountain resort, Krynica-Zdrój, in south of Poland.
For
years the name “Jaszowiec” (the village where the conference has
originated) has become the symbolic ‘trade mark’ of the event and,
therefore, it is still kept to brand the School and Conference.
Since the participants of "Jaszowiec" 2009 School and
Conference expresed enthusiastic opinions, the
Program Committee strongly believes that this move has opened new
possibilities for the School and Conference to accommodate better to a
quickly changing
world of semiconductor physics.
In 2010 the Conference will take place in Krynica-Zdrój from June 21th to 24th (Monday morning to Thursday (!) late evening, suggested arrival on Sunday evening, June 20th, and leave on Friday morning, June 25th), and will be preceded by the School (i.e., Special Tutorial Session) taking place from June 19th to 20th (Saturday and Sunday, suggested arrival on Friday 18th in the evening).
